Battalion, ATTENTION! Today, as we tread the path of remembrance with our #Battalion11 series, we salute the indomitable spirit of Tommy Prince. Enlisting with fervour in 1940, Prince's journey from the Canadian Army to being a revered sergeant with the Canadian Parachute Battalion is a testament to his valour. But it's with the "Devil's Brigade," the elite 1st Special Service Force, that Prince truly etched his name into the annals of war history. And folks, Hollywood didn't do justice to the audacity of this man in its 1968 film!
In Anzio, Italy, 1944, this man's cunning had him masquerading as a simple farmer right under the nose of German artillery. A snapped communication line? No challenge for Prince. With the Germans watching, he fixed it right up, enabling the destruction of four enemy tanks pounding our Allied brothers.
France saw more of Prince’s tenacity. Trekking rugged landscapes without sustenance for 72 hours, he located an enemy camp, leading our forces to capture a staggering 1,000 German soldiers.
I’ve heard tales of valour, but Prince stands tall among legends. We remember him not just as a soldier but as an embodiment of resilience and cunning. Let's honour Tommy Prince's legacy and ensure that stories like his are never forgotten.
