Battalion, Atten-tion! Today, Troopers, our #Battalion11 project, pays tribute to Pte. Nathan Smith, a son of Tatamagouche Nova Scotia, a member of the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and a beacon of optimism to all who knew him.
Nathan's journey was tragically cut short on April 18, 2002, in a devastating "friendly fire" incident that shook the very foundations of Canada. His smile could weather the fiercest storm, a spirit undimmed even in the face of danger. Yet, on a night meant for training under the stars near Kandahar, a grave error turned to tragedy, and Nathan, alongside three of his brothers-in-arms, was taken from this world.
In remembering Nathan, we affirm our commitment to honour those we've lost, to support the wounded, and to hold close to the memories that inspire us to carry on. Lest we forget.
For Nathan, for his family, for our fallen, we shall remember.
